About Us
On March 1, 1872, President Ulysses Grant signed into existence the world's first national park, Yellowstone National Park. The 2.2 million acres of wilderness was "set apart as a public park or pleasuring ground for the benefit and enjoyment of the people." Soon, the development of hotels, campsites, restaurants, and other guest amenities within the park attracted not only guests, but thousands of adventurous individuals who chose to work and live in Yellowstone National Park – and call it their home. For this reason, development began on The Yellowstone Co-Op Employee Recreation Program in 1957. The program was designed to serve the employee communities in the park by providing them with recreational activities within Yellowstone’s unique setting. In the spirit of the theme quoted by President Grant, this program adopted the motto "For the benefit and enjoyment of the employee."
Today, the Yellowstone Co-Op Employee Recreation Program serves nearly 4000 employees who work in the park for the National Park Service and concessionaires. Through the offering of services, facilities, and leisure activity programming, it is our goal to increase the morale of park employees and assist in employee community relationships.
Diversity is the cornerstone of our program. We serve people who literally have come from around the world to work in Yellowstone. In order to serve this diverse employee population effectively, we have developed the most comprehensive Employee Recreation Program that presently exists in the National Park System.
We are proud to play a positive role in the lives of the employees of Yellowstone National Park, such that the experience working in Yellowstone is an unforgettable one.
Member Organizations
The Co-Op Employee Recreation Program is governed by a committee of representatives, one for each of the member concessioners and the National Park Service (listed below). This committee meets regularly to discuss and vote upon program operation and development. All decisions are made right here in Yellowstone National Park.
