What You Need to Enjoy the Outdoors
The Employee Recreation Program operates the Yellowstone Outdoor Rental Service (Y.O.R.S.) from each one of the location Recreation Offices. This service is exclusively for Yellowstone employees. Equipment is top of the line, and the rental prices are surprisingly cheap. Visit your location Employee Recreation Office to find out more about prices and availability. Below is the list of items available for rental during the summer season:
Dana Design Backpacks: Bridger, Bighorn, Glacier and Alpine models. These are the packs that were made right here in the Rockies in Bozeman, Montana. Very High quality. Numerous sizes available.
Coleman Backpacking Stoves: Reliable, rugged designs that holds enough liquid fuel for days worth of cooking and water boiling. Comes filled with fuel.
Backpacking Sleeping Bags: We've got a wide range of bags available, all lightweight and designed for backpacking use. Bags range from heavier fill (for those who need more insulation to keep warm) to lighter weight models. All bags are high quality.
Ridge Rest Sleeping Pads: The standard. Will make sleeping in the backcountry a lot more comfortable. Fold them up for a soft seat around the campfire.
MSR Waterworks Water Filters: Both designs are easy to use and clean in the field. These filters will remove all harmful microorganisms from water intended for drinking. Never should one go in the backcountry for extended periods of time without a proper water filter.
Walrus and Eureka Tents: Sturdy yet lightweight designs. All tents come with a rain fly and stakes.
All rental fees include a deposit. You will receive your full deposit back upon return of the items, after they have been inspected for any damage. When returning tents, you must fully assemble the tent in order that the Recreation Staff can inspect it. Also, keep in mind that using a sleeping bag or tent near an open campfire is inviting costly burn holes! You will be charged for any damage of the rental items, and these fees will depend on the extent of the damage.
