Fishing
An Angler's Paradise
Yellowstone National Park is a world class fishing location. The abundant and beautiful wild waterways in the Yellowstone Area remain a destination for fishermen around the world, and working in Yellowstone provides incredible fishing opportunities that are above and beyond what any tourist can enjoy. Fishing regulations in the park are very specific to the area and time of year, and some areas are catch and release only. Details on these policies are available on the NPS Yellowstone Website Fishing in Yellowstone page.
The Co-Op Employee Recreation offers free Fly Fishing Seminars to employees. For more information, go to the Fly Fishing page on this site.
The Recreation Program does not lend or rent out any fishing gear. Fishing rods are delicate and require skilled handling in order that they are not damaged. Low cost rods and equipment are available locally for a very modest price and are worth the investment if you are interested in learning. Fishing poles and equipment are included in the fees for guided fishing trips provided by Xanterra Parks and Resorts on Yellowstone Lake. Contact Bridge Bay Marina for more details.
Lake Fishing is another popular form of fishing in the Park. If you own or have access to a boat you can fish the deeper waters far from the shoreline with specialized lures. This often leads to some big catches! The most popular Lake Fishing destination is, of course, Yellowstone Lake - which reaches depths of over 300 feet!
