Winter Wonderland

Yellowstone National Park is also open to guests for the winter season, which begins Late December and extends through Mid March. At this time only Old Faithful Snowlodge and Mammoth Hot Springs operate guest services. The employees who live on these two locations have the unique opportunity to enjoy Yellowstone's beautiful winter season.

Ski Trails are abundant throughout the park in winter, and many trailheads are located in both Old Faithful and Mammoth where employees can ski right out of their dorms or cabins. Both locations also operate ski shops in the winter. Here employees can rent or buy equipment, get some advice, get their equipment tuned or repaired, or sign up for ski lessons and / or upcoming ski trips. Many employees are offered discounted rates and special deals at these shops. Ask the shop staff about this and they'll fill you in.

Many employees may be able to jump on a guest snow coach for free on a space available basis. Employees who are interested in this should talk to the front desk staff at either the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel or the Old Faithful Snowlodge.

For those who enjoy downhill skiing, there are four ski resorts within close proximity of Yellowstone National Park. Click on the links below to find out more about these resorts.

Ski Program Information

Throughout the winter season, both the Old Faithful Snowlodge and Mammoth Hot Springs employees are treated with opportunities to participate in a number of ski trips. Talk to your location recreation staff and watch for postings if you are interested in participating in a ski trip.

An annual winter tradition, the Snowlodge Winter Olympics, is must-attend event for all winter employees! This is an employee only multi day event filled with all kinds of festivities and competitions. The Olympics are held in the Old Faithful area towards the end of February.
